When someone hears the word CANCER, they think they know what you are talking about. ?Cancer is so common that it now vies with heart disease for being the most common cause of death in men. Cancer has touched the lives of most people, usually in a very negative way.

Perhaps the best way to get a feel for prostate cancer is to compare the ?Bad? type of prostate cancer with cancer of the lung or colon, the other two most common types of cancer in men. Other cancers of the brain, bone, stomach, pancreas, kidney and bladder tend to behave in a way that is similar to lung or colon cancer.

Obama taking in Olympic basketball tune-ups

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Hoops fan President Barack Obama is getting an Olympic preview of USA Basketball.

Obama will be in the stands Monday for the U.S. men's and women's Olympic basketball exhibition games against Brazil. The games are tune-ups before the start of the London Olympics later this month.

Obama is an avid basketball fan and the games allow him to wrap himself in the Olympic spirit during his re-election campaign. His Republican rival, Mitt Romney, is expected to use the Olympics to highlight his leadership role during the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

Romney, who helped turn around the Salt Lake City Games after they became caught up in a bribery scandal, plans to be in London for the opening ceremonies next week. First lady Michelle Obama will lead the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremonies.

ESPN play-by-play commentator Mark Jones was interviewing Obama during halftime of the men's game, which was being broadcast on ESPN2. Vice President Joe Biden was joining Obama at Monday's exhibition games.

Some members of the men's team are Obama supporters. A handful of Olympic team members, including Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul, had agreed to participate in a basketball game fundraiser for Obama's campaign last December but the event was cancelled because of the resolution of the NBA lockout. The fundraising game has not been rescheduled.

Obama's campaign held a fundraiser last February at the Orlando-area home of Vince Carter of the Dallas Mavericks. Attendees included Paul, who plays point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers, NBA commissioner David Stern and former NBA stars Magic Johnson and Alonzo Mourning.

Basketball has been a longtime passion of Obama's. He played high school basketball in Hawaii and likes to play pickup basketball with friends. He helps coach his daughter Sasha's youth team and keeps close tabs on his hometown Chicago Bulls.

During Veterans Day last year, he was courtside for a game between Michigan State and North Carolina on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson off the coast of San Diego. In March, Obama invited British Prime Minister David Cameron to an opening round game of the NCAA tournament in Ohio.

Intense fighting reported inside Damascus city limits

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Opposition fighters battled Syrian government forces in poor districts of Damascus on Sunday in some of the most intensive daytime fighting yet inside the city limits of the capital.

Activist Samir al-Shami, who spoke to Reuters by Skype from Damascus, said the fighting was underway in the al-Tadamon district in the capital's south, after a night of sustained battles in the nearby Hajar al-Aswad district.

"There is the sound of heavy gunfire. And there is smoke rising from the area. There are already some wounded and residents are trying to flee the area," he said, showing live video images of smoke visible over the skyline.

"There are also armored vehicles heading towards the southern part of the neighborhood," he said.

He described it as the most intense fighting he had heard in the capital. Another Damascus resident who asked not to be identified also said the fighting was the worst so far.

"This area has had a lot of fighting ... The area is kind of a slum. The people who live there are poor. There's a lot of people and a lot of grassy areas around it so it's easy for rebels to sneak in and out."

An explosion hit a security forces bus in Damascus on Sunday and wounded several people, activists said. Residents said they heard a powerful blast, followed by the sirens of ambulances rushing toward Damascus's southern ring road near the neighborhood of Midan.

Fifteen months into an uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, intensive fighting has reached the outskirts of the capital in recent weeks, focused on poorer areas where anger against the authorities is highest.

Clashes frequently take place at night, but intensive battles during the day appear to be a new sign of the seriousness of the conflict.

The opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which compiles reports by anti-Assad activists, said Sunday's death toll was at least 80. Rockets were being used in the fighting in Damascus, it said. Its figures are impossible to verify as the government restricts access to the country by independent media.

Western countries, Arab neighbors and Turkey have formed an alliance against Assad. But diplomacy has had little impact so far, with Assad's allies Russia and China blocking action by the U.N. Security Council and the West showing no appetite for the kind of intervention it undertook last year when NATO helped topple Libya's Muammar Gaddafi.

Opposition reports of a massacre last week in the village of Tremseh brought a wave of new denunciations of Assad in the West. U.N. observers returned on Sunday to the village to gather more evidence at the site after finding blood, damaged houses and signs that artillery was used, but inconclusive evidence of the scale of the killing.

The government says it killed several dozen enemy fighters in battle in the village of Tremseh last week but denies accusations that it carried out a massacre or that its forces used heavy weapons.

Opposition footage of the incident on the Internet has shown bloody corpses of men, but not women or children, making it difficult to determine whether those killed were fighters.

Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi criticized U.N. peace mediator Kofi Annan for jumping to conclusions by accepting opposition reports of the incident last week.

"What happened was not a massacre ... what happened was a military operation," Makdissi told a news conference in Damascus. "Government forces did not use planes, or helicopters, or tanks or artillery."

Annan had said on Friday he was "shocked and appalled" at the government for breaking a promise not to use heavy weapons in populated areas, and that it was confirmed that helicopters and artillery had fired in Tremseh.

Sander van Hoorn, a Dutch journalist who reached Tremseh, said by Twitter that he had counted 30 graves in the town and had seen clear evidence of shelling, including of a school used as a shelter by refugees.

He said the evidence on the ground clearly contradicted the government's assertion that no heavy weapons were used. But he also said had not yet seen signs of a massacre like one that took place in the city of Houla in May, when the United Nations says 34 women and 49 children were among 108 people killed.

"Impossible now to say how many civilians got killed in ?#Tremseh? but at first sight (!!) it does not appear to be another Houla," he tweeted.

Annan is due to fly to Moscow on Monday for a two-day visit in which he will meet President Vladimir Putin.

Western countries have repeatedly hinted that they see Putin easing his support for Assad, but Moscow has shown no sign in public of wavering in its backing for its last major Arab ally, a customer for its arms and host to a Russian naval support base.

Russia and China say they support a peace plan by Annan, which calls for a ceasefire and a negotiated transition to democracy but makes no explicit call for Assad to leave power. Assad's opponents say negotiations are impossible unless Assad is removed.

Iran, Assad's closest ally in the region, repeated a long-standing offer to act as a mediator between the government and opposition, but was immediately rebuffed by opposition activists.

The United States and its Western allies say Iran cannot play a constructive role in Syria, while Annan wants Iran at the table.

The Syrian conflict has taken on an increasingly sectarian character, with Assad's mainly Sunni-Muslim opponents backed by Sunni Arab states, while Shi'ite Iran supports Assad, a member of the minority Alawite sect, which is an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam.

Google (GOOG) built its new Nexus Q around some good ideas, but the digital media player is a pricey half-baked product.

The Nexus Q represents the company's first attempt at its own digital living room device. Consumers can use it to stream movies, TV shows or music to their living room entertainment systems.

What makes the $300 Nexus Q different from other digital media players is that Google designed it to work specifically with smartphones and tablets running its Android operating system. The Nexus Q doesn't ship with a remote control; instead, you have to use your Android device to control it. And the Nexus Q doesn't have any kind of user interface of its own. Instead of navigating a menu of apps or channels on your TV screen, as you would with an Apple (AAPL) TV or Roku box, you select media to be played on the Nexus Q through the screen of your Android phone or tablet.

That's why Google representatives consider the Nexus Q to be an Android accessory, rather than a stand-alone device. But calling it a mere "accessory" understates its potential. The Q is a bona fide computer; its specifications, which include a dual-core processor,

1-gigabyte of memory and 16 gigabytes of Flash storage, are on par with what you'd find in many smartphones or tablets.

One way the Q already takes advantage of its capabilities is in how it plays back movies and music. When you tell the Q to play a movie using your smartphone, it appears that you are "beaming" the movie from your phone. But you're not; instead, Google routes the movie directly to the Q. That means you don't have to worry about draining your phone's battery or losing your movie stream because someone or something is blocking the "beamed" signal.

Another thing to like about the Nexus Q is that it's easy to set up. A special app that you can download from the Google Play store to your Android device automatically detects the Q and allows you to start configuring it without having to first get the media player onto your network. So you can enter your Wi-Fi password using the touch-screen keyboard on your phone rather than having to painfully navigate an on-screen keyboard on your TV with a four-button remote control. In all, it took me about five minutes to set up the Q.

Unlike many other media players, the Q has a built-in amplifier, so you can use it as a music player by just plugging in speakers, rather than connecting it to a stereo system. One other cool thing you can do with the Q is create a sort-of crowd-sourced music playlist. The owner can allow multiple devices to connect to the Q and add music to its queue of upcoming songs.

But such features aren't enough to save the Nexus Q from being a severely limited device.

The Q only plays media from YouTube or the Google Play store. You can't watch movies from Netflix (NFLX), TV shows from Hulu or user videos from Vimeo. You can't listen to music from Pandora, Spotify or Last.fm. You can't view pictures from Flickr, Facebook or even Google Plus. You can't watch any sports games from Major League Baseball or the National Basketball Association. And you can't play any games.

It's incredible to me that Google thinks it could launch without support for Netflix at least, much less these other providers. With Netflix available on seemingly every other digital media device on the market, access to the service is expected at this point, and most consumers interested in digital media wouldn't buy a device without it.

Google representatives say the company plans to open up the Q to content from other providers, but they haven't said when.

But access to media isn't the only thing the Q lacks. There's no way to send your personal content directly from your phone or tablet to the device. Want to watch a video of your kids you took on your phone on your big-screen TV? You'll have to upload it to YouTube first. Want to view a slideshow on your TV of pictures you took on your phone from your latest trip? You can't do it on the Q.

You can also forget trying to view any Web content other than YouTube on the device. You can't view Web pages as you can on a gadget running Google's unrelated Google TV software. And you can't beam videos embedded in a Web page to the Q as you can with Apple TV.

Some of those limitations might be more palatable if Google Play offered a robust selection of movies and TV shows. But as I detailed in my review of the Nexus Q tablet, Google's movie and TV offerings are spotty at best. If you want to watch something other than recent box office hits, you'll likely have a hard time finding it.

Oh, and did I mention you have to have an Android device to use the Q? If you're like a good chunk of the populace and have neither an Android tablet nor smartphone, forget buying the Q, because it will be useless to you. Even Apple TV can be used by consumers who don't own any other Apple device.

All those limitations are particularly galling considering the Q's cost. You can do much more with an Apple TV, whose $100 price tag is one-third that of the Q's. And you can access lots more content through Roku's line of players, which cost as little as $50. Heck, you'll soon be able to get a Google TV device from Vizio that gives you access to everything you'll find on the Q -- and a lot more -- for just $100.

With all its potential, the Nexus Q will likely improve considerably in the future. But Google would have benefited by baking it a bit longer. Because given all it lacks, its cost is really hard to swallow.

The 665,000-square-foot building will have laboratories on the east side, office space and site services on the west side and one level of staff parking underground. We're in the dark on Sony data, although it's important that just 90,000 Wii units traded hands in the same month -- as clear a sign as any that the Wii U can't come quickly enough for Satoru Iwata and company.

Pavone scores twice, Cruz Azul wins 2-1 in Dallas

DALLAS (AP) - Mariano Pavone scored two goals, and nearly had a couple more, to lead Cruz Azul to a 2-1 victory over Club America Wednesday night in a Mexican First Division preseason exhibition at the Cotton Bowl.

After Christian Benitez gave Club America a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, the newcomer from Lanus in Argentina struck back with goals in the 27th and 35th minutes.

Pavone also had another apparent goal called back by an offside call in the 20th minute and was victimized by a spectacular hand save by Club America goalkeeper Hugo Duran in the 43rd.

He was substituted out of the match in the 69th minute.

Cruz Azul goalkeeper Yosgart Gutierrez made spectacular diving saves on Paul Rojas in the 52nd minute and on Adrian Rodriguez in the 57th.

Cruz Azul, working in a number of new players in addition to Pavone, not to mention new coach Guillermo Vazquez, controlled the action for much of the first half, but found itself trailing 1-0 in the 24th minute on a pretty goal by Benitez.

After Jesus Molina fed a pass from deep on the left side of the box, Benitez lifted a 5-yard chip shot over Gutierrez and off the underside of the crossbar.

It took Cruz Azul just three minutes to tie it, though, after Pavone slipped behind the America defense, received a nice long lead ball from Gerardo Flores, and slotted a low 15-yard shot past Duran into the left side of the net.

Pavone struck again eight minutes after that on a seemingly innocent play, as Alejandro Vela was repelled by the Club America defense several yards inside the penalty area. But Vela backtracked and fed the ball to Pavone five yards outside the area for a low shot that rolled just beyond the diving Duran inside the left post.

Pavone nearly recorded the hat trick, but Duran made an outstanding stop in the 43rd minute. Pavone's 5-yard shot appeared ticketed for the upper left corner, but Duran came up with a leaping, lunging hand save, knocking it just wide of the left post.

With just one pre-season contest remaining before the Apertura kicks off, both teams utilized what projects as their starting lineups for the first 60 minutes before a flurry of substitutions worked in most of the reserve players.

People are being exposed to higher levels of the substitute for BPA in cash register thermal paper receipts and many of the other products that engendered concerns about the health effects of bisphenol A, according to a new study. Believed to be the first analysis of occurrence of bisphenol S (BPS) in thermal and recycled paper and paper currency, the report appears in ACS' journal Environmental Science & Technology.

Kurunthachalam Kannan and colleagues point out that growing evidence of the potentially toxic effects of BPA has led some manufacturers to replace it with BPS in thermal paper and other products. BPS is closely related to BPA, with some of the same estrogen-mimicking effects, and unanswered questions exist about whether it is safer. Nevertheless, very little is known about BPS occurrence in the environment, the scientists noted. To fill that knowledge gap, they analyzed 16 types of paper from the U.S., Japan, Korea and Vietnam.

The study detected BPS in all the receipt paper they tested, 87 percent of the samples of paper currency and 52 percent of recycled paper. The researchers estimate that people may be absorbing BPS through their skin in larger doses than they absorbed BPA when it was more widely used 19 times more BPS than BPA. People who handle thermal paper in their jobs may be absorbing much more BPS.

UN Official: Mladic was Confident but Frustrated :: Balkan Insight

The trial of the Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic continued on Tuesday with the cross examination of the first witness, Elvedin Pasic, who testified on Monday, and the testimony of the former UN official David Harland.

Mladic?s defence lawyer Branko Lukic argued that Pasic?s testimony cannot be taken into account because the witness did not see any of the killing himself, or see any bodies.

"The witness was not at the crime scene, and if the killing did take place then the local villagers are responsible and not the accused as it is listed in the indictment,? says Lukic.

During his testimony Pasic claimed that the Serb forces were responsible for the killing of at least 150 Bosniak men in the village of Grabovica in 1992.

The defence also asked for the upcoming hearings to be postponed since the prosecution had again failed to follow the procedure for presenting and delivering written evidence.

The Trial Chamber said that it would decide later this week on the defence's latest motion to suspend the trial, and would continue with the proceedings in the meantime.

David Harland, a former political advisor to the UN Protection Forces in Bosnia, who participated in the negotiations with the Serb authorities over freedom of movement during the siege of Sarajevo, said that the flow of water, food and electricity in the city was controlled by the Serb forces, which were under the complete control of Ratko Mladic.

Harland met Mladic at least 20 times during the war, and described the accused as a confident man who frequently resorted to threats in his communications with UN officials. He saw him as a frustrated commander who blamed the political leaders of the Bosnian Serbs for military setbacks.

He explained that during the siege a large number of shells were fired on Sarajevo each day.

?On average, we counted about a thousand heavy weapon impacts each day. On a normal day, most of the shells, or the better half of them, were just designed to terrorise people, they were not aimed at anything specific," adds Harland.

Mladic's trial was due to resume on 25 June after it was halted in May.? The examination of the first witnesses was delayed twice, due to problems over the disclosure of evidence to the defence.

Mladic, who was arrested in May last year, has pleaded not guilty to charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war during the Bosnian conflict between 1992 and 1995.

The trial will continue on July 11.
